Unit for Applied Chemistry
The Unit of Applied Chemistry at Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius focuses on education, research, and development in chemistry and chemical engineering. The unit has a strong industrial collaboration with Kokkola Industrial Park - a significant hub for chemical industry in the region.
At the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius the University of Oulu offers chemistry studies. You can pursue master’s studies (120 ECTS) and complete a doctoral degree. The studies are conducted through blended learning, closely connected to working life.
The research focus areas are:
- Novel battery chemicals for energy storage.
- Inorganic industrial circular economy.
- Catalysis, catalytic materials, and biomass modification processes.
- Catalysts and adsorbents in industrial water treatment.

Research and development in the Applied Chemistry unit
In the Unit of Applied Chemistry, multidisciplinary and internationally networked research is conducted.
