Unit for Applied Chemistry

The Unit of Applied Chemistry at Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius focuses on education, research, and development in chemistry and chemical engineering. The unit has a strong industrial collaboration with Kokkola Industrial Park - a significant hub for chemical industry in the region.

Education, research, and development in chemistry.

At the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius the University of Oulu offers chemistry studies. You can pursue master’s studies (120 ECTS) and complete a doctoral degree. The studies are conducted through blended learning, closely connected to working life.

The research focus areas are:

  • Novel battery chemicals for energy storage.
  • Inorganic industrial circular economy.
  • Catalysis, catalytic materials, and biomass modification processes.
  • Catalysts and adsorbents in industrial water treatment.

Studies in chemistry

Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius offers chemistry studies from the University of Oulu. You can pursue master’s studies (120 ECTS) and complete a doctoral degree.

The studies are conducted through blended learning, which includes modern learning environments, lecture recordings, self-directed studies, and exams. Students have the opportunity to take exams for courses either in Oulu or Kokkola. The education is closely connected to the working life: research and project work and the thesis can be integrated into the student’s own workplace development projects. This allows for practical application and deepens the learning experience.

We also offer continuing education.
