Impact on university community and society at large

International level competence of the university consortium

In the field of information technology, the university center's special areas of expertise are solutions for wireless data transmission and intelligent data processing. Special expertise in educational sciences is related to innovations in teacher training, such as multi-modal training, self-evaluation and group management. The special fields of business sciences are the development of companies and organizations and the adaptation of society to structural changes. The main areas of specialization in social work are the eco-social development of society and research on immigrants. The focus of applied chemistry activities are the creation of new circular economy solutions for industry, the manufacture of battery chemicals free of critical raw materials, and the development of carbon dioxide-free hydrogen production technology.

Scientific results

Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius (KUCC) - with the universities of Jyväskylä, Oulu and Vaasa - produces scientific publications, university degrees and other university education. Through these, the university consortium has accumulated special expertise in the fields of information technology, educational sciences, business sciences, social work and applied chemistry.

For example, from 2014 the University Consortium's researchers have produced more than 400 publications in the most scientifically prestigious publication series and, in addition, more than 300 other publications. In total, the University Consortium has produced just under 100 doctoral degrees since 1997, approximately 2,000 master's degrees since 1989, and just under 500 bachelor's degrees since 2009.

The importance of the projects is central

The projects play a central role in the operation of the university center. Almost half of the university center's funding comes through projects of general benefit or client-funded projects. The social and regional goals of the project are the development of the competitiveness and innovation capacity of companies and the public sector, and the promotion of the creation of new businesses. In the years 2019–2022, 57 projects were underway and the funding allocated to them was a total of 8.6 million euros.
