Aila-Leena is coordinating the social work teaching team at the Bachelor (Open University) and  Master level. Her own teaching is focussing on the Master level,  especially seminars and supervision of Master Thesis, an on  the Doctoral Studies: Co-teaching of the Doctoral colloquium of Social Work at the University Consortium and supervision of the Doctoral Students of the University of Jyväskylä, Kokkola University Consortium. She is also involved in the National Doctoral School of Social Work and Social Services http://www.sosnet.fi/In_English/Doctoral_Studies.iw3 and in the

International Doctoral School in Social Work INDOSOW http://www.indosow.net/

Her main research interests are addressing citizens’ participation and welfare services; third sector research, eco-social approach in social work from a local and global perspective; rural communities and social work: comparative social work and welfare research; Social work studies as Adult education (part-times studies)
