Biography

I work as a university teacher in Kokkola university Consortium Chydenius, in adult teacher training. The main areas of my work in pre-service teacher training studies are linked with the following: pedagogical aspect in pre-primary and primary education, the development of learning in the authentic Contextual-pedagogical environments, individual learning and well-being in the aspect of art-based methods in elementary school environments.

In addition to pre-service teacher training, my interest and responsibilities lies on in-service teacher training, where I concentrate on developing developing an early foreign language learning model into Finnish basic education. Currently my interests lies on ubiquitous, authentic learning and learning environments as well as education on individual learning, art-based methods and well-being.

I have passed my Master of Education degree in University of Oulu, Kajaani University Consortium 2001. After graduation I worked several years as a primary school class teacher (2001-2011). At the same time I did my doctoral thesis about learning environments. I have passed my Doctor of Education degree 2008 in University of Jyväskylä, Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius, where I have worked since 2011.

My latest studies are:

Teaching Academic Content through English (Tace -programme for staff development in intercultural university pedagogy and English). (15 op). (2015)

Phenomenal based learning -webinar period and development task (2016)

Solution Based neuro-psychiatric therapeutics degree (25op) (2017-2018)

Integrative life-traps and schema focused therapy -therapeutic degree (2018-2019)

Within these last two degrees I have a qualification to work as a Solution focused work (clinical) supervisor.

Research Areas

In recent years, my main research areas concentrate on designing the learning environments with pedagogical and digital aspects, curriculum reform, individual learning and well-being and the early foreign language learning process.

Research and Training Projects

In 2012-2016 I worked as a trainer and researcher in national education research in-service training projects, K-opeGo. The project aim was to develop teachers´ pedagogical skills, working methods and tools from traditional to transformational learning and learning environments from the point of view of the 21st century Civil Skills Pedagogical Content Knowledge (21st century CSPCK). The project was funded by co-operations cities of Kokkola, Hämeenlinna and Tampere and RymShok.

In 2014-2015 worked as a trainer in in-service training project, called POD. The main areas in those three projects were to update teachers´ digital skills. The POD - project was funded by Centria University of applied sciences.

In 2015 I worked as a researcher in Play as Part of Learning – Learning as Part of Play -project. The main goal in the project was to increase playful learning environments. The project was funded by Ministry of education and culture.

In 2015 I worked in eEducation project called From everyman´s right to everyman´s possibility. (In co-operation with University of Jyväskylä)

In 2015 I worked as an action researcher in Finnish primary school. The main aim was to review the SAMR -model as an innovative model to update teachers´ pedagogical and digital skills. The research was funded by Ministry of education and culture.

In 2016-2017 Let´s update together -Group trainer mentoring-project about how to update teachers´ pedagogical skills and curriculum knowledge. (funded by finnish National agency for education)

In 2016-2017 I worked as a trainer in in-service project in upper secondary education. The main aim was to incorporate curriculum -context, transformational pedagogic and co-teaching together. (funded by finnish National agency for education in co-operation with the City of Kokkola)

Recent and current research projects

In 2017-2018 Developing the dimensions of teachers´ professional competences (as an OSU-profile indicator) (funded by Ministry of education and culture)

In 2018-2019 Action research project “The art-based methods in developing transversal competence” (in co-operation with University of the Arts Helsinki and Savonlinna Summer University, funded by finnish National agency for education)

In 2017- The Early Bird Gets the Word – The early foreign language learning -project co-operated with University of Helsinki, University of Jyväskylä and Åbo Akademi. Our task in this project has been to design an early foreign language teaching model (funded by National board of education)

Teaching

My teaching responsibilities lies on pedagogical aspect and religion and worldview aspect in pre-primary and primary education and the development of learning environments from Contextual-pedagogical approach. I also working with different practicum periods, for example responsibilities in project practicum period. I also have several courses in advanced special studies as well in subject related studies. Part of my responsibilities lies on master´s thesis dissertations.

After my doctoral degree, I have published many national and international publications concerning teacher training, teaching, learning, the future pedagogic, ubiquitous and authentic learning environments, art-based methods in elementary school environments and early language learning.
