Pohjanlahden rantatie -hankkeen erillisselvitys (Separate investigation for the project ”Pohjanlahden rantatie” (‘Tourist Route of the Coast of Bothnian Sea’))

The idea of the main project ‘Tourist Route of the Coast of Bothnian Sea’ is to develop the historical road located along the west coast of Finland as a tourist route. The main project is coordinated by the Degree Program in Cultural Production and Landscape Studies which operates in the University Consortium Pori at the service of the University of Turku. The project is headed by Professor Maunu Häyrynen.

In the separate investigation concerned with Central Ostrobothnia the narrative-rich and profound travel destinations along the Central Ostrobothnian part of the route (in the municipalities of Luoto, Kruunupyy, Kokkola and Kalajoki) were mapped. In the mapping such destinations were emphasized which are located at the margins of conventional routes, and which represent the so-called slow travel.

The data for the separate investigation was largely gathered in the project ‘Genius loci’ (genius loci (lat.) refers to the spirit of place) which is under way at the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius. Genius loci has started in the beginning of 2010 by Ilkka Luoto, Olli Rosenqvist, Annika Nyström and Kari Ilmonen.
