KASE Growth Programme

Preparing for the major projects and business growth in the Kaustinen region and experimenting on the acquisition of competent workforce

kase-kasvuohjelma-logot-EN-www.pngThe KASE region, i.e. the collaborative region of the municipalities Halsua, Kaustinen, Lestijärvi, Toholampi and Veteli, is preparing major projects related to wind power and mining, with investment worth at least hundreds of millions of euros and workplace effects up to hundreds of person-years. In addition to these, companies in the region are growing rapidly now and in the future, requiring more and more skilled staff.

What are the real effects of this revolutionary development on the region? How do we make use of the opportunities to expand the vitality of the region, businesses as well as ultimately to increase the amount of residents? How can the region respond to the existing shortage of labour and safeguard the availability of labour for the major projects?

To find answers to these challenging questions, the KASE region implemented with the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius the KASE Growth Program, which evaluated the overall impact of the major projects, developed a growth program with tools and a pilot work on the acquisition of skilled labour.

The KASE region was the main actor of the project, responsible for coordination, growth program development and the pilot work on the acquisition of skilled labour. Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius was responsible for compiling the overall impact assessment of the major projects and served as an expert in other parts of the project. The project co-operated with municipalities and companies in the region as well as educational, development and research organizations.

The project was funded by the Regional Council of Central Ostrobothnia, municipalities of the KASE region and Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius, through the so-called AIKO funding (launching regional innovations and experimentations), with the total cost of EUR 62 731. The project was implemented from 1 November 2018 to 30 April 2019. The project manager of the project was Timo Pärkkä from the KASE region.
