Maaseudun uusien palvelujen tehokkuus ja sosiaaliset vaikutukset (Analyzing and explaining social impact and efficiency of new rural services)

Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen’s new government aims to reduce radically the number of municipalities in Finland. So called strong base municipalities are put in charge of service production. Production will be based on the logic of centralization. Reform aims to take advantage of scale economies in various branches. The aim of the project is to develop a new understanding of rural services. The special features of rural service market means that production is best to organize according to the logic of scope economies. This project analyses different types of successful rural service producers. From this empirical knowledge can be developed best practice models to be used in other parts of the country.
