The Selected Works of Anders Chydenius published

The Selected Works of Anders Chydenius, kansiAnticipating The Wealth of Nations: The Selected Works of Anders Chydenius, 1729–1803 was published 30th September 2011 by Routledge.

The book consists of eleven of the most important writings of Anders Chydenius, translated from the original by Peter C. Hogg. Thematically they touch upon subject areas such as the freedom of trade and industry, emigration, the monetary system of the Swedish realm in the eighteenth century, the freedom of the press (or as Chydenius said: the freedom of writing and printing), the freedom of information, the rights of the rural working class and the freedom of religion. The book also includes a comprehensive biography of Chydenius written by Lars Magnusson together with commentaries and explanatory notes to each text.

For academic researchers and professionals of history of economic thought and history of ideas, both Smith scholars as well as others, this book provides valuable new source material, which has not been available in English until now. This volume is also intended for the general public with an interest in for instance questions related to the Freedom of Information and Freedom of Religion. This volume will serve as a fruitful ground to future comparative studies, raise new intriguing questions and promote the general discussion on these topics.
