International activities of Social Work

The Social Work unit at the Kokkola University Consortium belongs to the same frame of international contacts as the social work unit at the main campus of the University of Jyväskylä, Department of Social Studies and Philosophy. This also concerns the bilateral agreements regarding  teacher and student mobility.

• Since 2007, we have been members of the International Doctoral School of Social Work www.indosow.net
• Together with the Dortmund University of Technology we are part of a research proposal in the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission. With these partners, we run a comparative research project on family concepts, in which we also develop family-oriented interview methods. Dr. Kim-Patrick Sabla from Dortmund University visited our unit in February 2009 and gave a presentation of his doctoral thesis on Fathers as service users is family related social services.
• New Publication in German language about the Finnish system of school and welfare.
• We are coordinating the “European Participation Network” which focuses on research into the connection between citizens’ participation and welfare services.
